When the super talented Olu from Madeit Patterns asked me to get on the dance floor and join the virtual catwalk of their new pattern, the Drop Dress (& Top) I hardly hesitated. I mean, fashion ànd party? Yes, please!

Madeit Patterns is gekend voor zijn moderne stijl, patronen die absolute coolness uitstralen. En echt, Olu en haar kinderen staan in mijn ogen erg hoog op de cool-fashion-ladder, heel erg hoog. Haar blog Needle & Ted is trouwens één van de grappigste om te lezen.
Madeit Patterns to me screams modern styles and absolute coolness. Really, Olu and her daughters are the Queens of Cool. And her blog Needle & Ted is one of the funniest ever, reading her stories always makes me laugh. Always.
Eerder maakte ik al de Groove Dress en was daar zo content van dat ik ook nu wist dat het weer spot on zou zijn. De Drop Dress zit in een wip in elkaar maar ziet er toch niet zo gewoontjes uit, en dat is net wat mij aanspreekt.
Earlier I made the Groove Dress for my middle daughter and that convinced me that this one too would be spot on. The Drop Dress is an easy make but doesn’t flaunt that once finished. It actually looks complicated, I think. So the dress is a show-off without any blood, sweat and tears from the maker? Oh yeah, hands up!
Dochter 1 was onmiddellijk te vinden voor een exemplaar in bordeaux-rode viscose jersey (Lucy Has a Secret) van Mon Depot. Het is heel belangrijk dat de gekozen stof heel soepel valt, of dropt zeg maar. Anders lijkt de jurk een zak volgens mij.
My eldest immediately wanted a Drop Dress of her own when she saw Olu’s pictures and we chose a burgundy red viscose jersey (by Lucy Has a Secret, purchased at Mon Depot) that drops like it’s hot. It is really important that the fabric you use has enough flowiness to it, to make sure it really drops instead of looking like you’re wearing a big bag.
Olu vroeg aan de Fashion Week party people om creatief om te springen met de back’drop’ (achtergrond) waartegen de jurk gefotografeerd zou worden, ze maakte er zelfs een wedstrijd van. Ik moet zeggen dat ik op dat gebied lichtelijk ongerust was. Ik ben nogal gehecht aan mijn witte bakstenen muur en zag me niet direct uit mijn comfortzone stappen. Maar een Drop Dress, daar horen drops bij dacht ik, dus ik zette Dochter 2 aan het knippen.
And then Olu asked the Fashion Week party people to be creative with the backdrop when photographing our makes. She even turned it into a competition for us. Oh my, you might know how attached I am to my white brick wall so I felt a small panic attack coming up. But then again, a Drop Dress just needs drops I thought, so I summoned the middle daughter and had her do some arts and crafts.
